Johanna

Tucked away behind the harbour in Hamburg you can find Cafe Johanna. It is a good place to stop if you need coffee and food. I snapped this shot in late winter when the weather was acting like spring.

Then, there.

Berlin, standing still, looking backwards and up, forwards and down.

Berlin

Berlin, late Feb, afternoon sunlight on a blank wall in a bare room.

Stuffed

Um, I kind of love really old fashioned German Konditoreien, we once lived somewhere we hated for far too long but the local Konditorei helped make it a little better. We would go there for the cosy, quaint atmosphere, the delicious homemade cakes and the quiet company of elderly Germans.
These are a few extra shots from this day when I met this cake.

Dishwater day.

Germany on a drab winter day, washed in a palette of brown, greens and grey. I have a friend who hates January, the way it can drag it's feet and offer little excitement. She feels stuck, suspended between the festive season and a distant spring. For me, it always seems to pass by so quickly, I have more problems with February and it's false promises of warmer days.

Between stations

On the train, in motion, homeward bound, suspended in time between Germany and Belgium.

The end is the beginning.

Ending this year the way it began, in Germany with the best kind of friends, good food, drinks and some questionable firework antics.

your autumn sweater

Clear blue skies, fiery leaves, crisp evenings, knitted sweaters and some warm apple cider.
Autumn is my favourite season. I want to bake gingerbread and listen to music, like this and this.

Meeting Christian

Last week in Germany, when out day-tripping, we bumped into Christian on his destructive path across Europe. We turned around, away from the storm, and made for Externsteine where we watched the sky clear then turn blue. This place has a long, interesting and somewhat shady history.
If you are willing you can clamber all the way up to the top.

kuchen.

At the in-law's being force fed. If you need me I will be curled up somewhere in a carb/sugar induced coma.
