suspended flight
These were taken at the Military Museum, we ended up there by chance, entry is free- a rarity in Europe and you can climb up to the rooftop for a 360 view of Brussels. Besides a collection of suspended aircraft they also have the creepiest museum mannequins you will ever see, this place is stuffed to the brim and is an interesting example of the way museums used to look.
hometown tourist
We stepped out of our tiny inner city bubble this weekend and went exploring further afield. We were blessed with lovely spring weather which always means ice-cream. Brussels apparently has over 70 parks, this is one of them, the Cinquantenaire.
words of encouragement
February, grey, windy, rainy and dragging its feet, is almost gone. I am ready for spring but not in the same sad desperate way as last year. Winter has been much kinder this time round, so gentle it gives me worry that something nasty is just lurking round the corner. The Vernal Equinox, the official start of spring, is still a month away...
Brussel's eats: Bia Mara.
If you find yourself in Brussels, you should eat here, at Bia Mara. We go there all the time and have since it opened. It has never let us down. The service is friendly and the food is fresh, fast, cheap and most importantly it is delicious. They also have a great selection of Belgian beers.
Gingerbread
It is the perfect time to be baking. Gingerbread needs just a few simple ingredients, I use this recipe, it is easy, fun and delicious. I love gingerbread, I love it's soft German cousin lebkuchen and it's spicy Belgian friend speculoos. They all have very limited lifespans round here.
